"PROMOTING THE GAME"
Gary Benson has been playing golf for 61 of his 69 years on Earth, and has played over 600 golf courses. This website is to share his experiences with you so that you may plan some great travel as you endeavor to live "The Golfing Life." As he approaches retirement, Gary is spending more and more time on golf writing and as a golf publicist in his personal quest to promote the Great Game of Golf . Gary has played golf in ten different countries around the world and has visited the golf meccas of Ireland and Scotland, five times and three times, respectively. He has been a low single digit handicap player for many years and has won five club championships at his home course, The Wilmette Golf Club, as well as two Wilmette Amateur Golf Championships. In July 1993 he set the course record at the Wilmette Golf Club shooting a 65. That course record was later surpassed by Illinois golf professional, Dino Luchessi, who shot a 64 in a Pro-Am at Wilmette about 12 years ago, although 65 remains the amateur course record. In 2013, Gary won the Wilmette Senior Club Championship, shooting 71-68 over two days (one under par for the tournament.) In 2014, Gary placed in the top 30 in the state of Illinois in the Illinois Senior Amateur at Aldeen GC, near Rockford, IL. In 2019, Gary was inaugurated as a Director of the Chicago District Golf Association (CDGA).
